Impi Training

August 10, 2010 | training

If you are preparing for the Impi Challenge, why not train with a group of like-minded runners?

Rumour has it that a group (who have been certified “crazy” for having entered the event so you’re in good company) will be meeting regularly every Tuesday evening from 6pm at the Milnerton Lifesaving Clubhouse (next to the Milnerton Lighthouse) GPS co-ordinates: @-33.881247,18.487072. Word is, this group will be doing soft-sand beach runs, in running shoes, with a couple of obstacles being planned to start “warming up” for what should be a fun event.

Nothing hectic- all fun and social with “jogs” lasting anything between 5km and 11km, at whatever pace works for you. It also seems a perfect opportunity to “try” out some of your kit (and some of your body too).

* Do those favourite polyshorts chaffe *bad*?
* Are you going to get blisters running with wet socks and shoes?
* Will your Tigers even last?
* How bad can it be leopard crawling through soft sand after 6km of hard running?
* Can you run through waist deep water?
* Will a heart rate monitor just get in the way?
* Is a camel pack practical?

Starting Tuesday 17 August, 6pm, Milnerton Beach.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, there is a choice of watering holes on the Milnerton beach strip where you regale with a tale from your session.

nice! Googled Impi challenge and this was on the first page.

One more question that I need answered in this training is: What do people in China call their good plates? China?

    Hi Ron (aka Chris G)
People in China call their good plates “goo play”, china. But I’m no plate expert so you’ll have to verify that with someone living in China, china.
Anyhooo, now that we have covered some of your queries, we hope to see you (and your good china) down on the beach for some Impi warrioring, china.
    Cheers,

Great news is that One80 are going to be joining us on the beach and making the training just that extra special. Read article here for all the good news- we can look forward to some ‘elite’ sessions!

    Hi there,

I’m no elite but would like to join in the fun… will there be other non competitive people coming?

    Thanks :)

      Hi Sarah,
Absolutely! The “elite” athletes amongst us are those who do what they can to better themselves- it’s a personal thing and we respect and encourage those who try or wanna try. It’s not necessarily the ones breaking SA records :)
And of course, along the way it’s a “jol” so you’re more than welcome to join us.
Naturally, there are one or two competitive folk, but hardly too serious I’d say, just seriously fun ;)
      See you on the beach!
