Recover With A Foam Roller
August 30, 2010 | training
Recovery from exercise is often underrated. With media and advertising pushing you to try out a new form (or class) of training *all the time* (coupled with boundless coverage on the perfect body) it’s easy to feel the pressure of needing to train *all the time*. But you do need to recover *some time*.
There’s plenty of good digital write-up about when, how and why to rest and recover. Any athlete (and that includes the gym-twice-a-week athlete) would be wise to heed that advice. From physiological to psychological, aerobic to muscular, there’s nothing quite like a well-timed rest to give your training the boost you might need. Of course, these rest days are great opportunities to get a good sports massage in. And if you can’t quite fit that in, then there’s the eva foam roller.
You can source these from the sports department of any major dealer, but the best place to get hold of them in ZA is HiTech Therapy. If you need to know how to use one you can pick up a guide almost anywhere, but it’s always best to check with a trained professional (like a physio or personal trainer with specific training in that skill).
A couple minutes after a big workout, or on your rest day, take some time out and spend it on the roller. Wether you’re running, swimming or cycling (or pretty much anything else) you will definitely benefit from using the roller to smoothe out those aches and pains and unlock those knots.
